The town of Colomers is bordered by the municipalities of Vilopriu and Garrigoles to the north, Foixà to the south, Jafre to the east and Sant Jordi Desvalls to the west, and to the south is the River Ter. Thus, Colomers has an area of 4.30 km² and that makes it the smallest town in the Baix Empordà. The Riera de les Arces river course crosses a part of the municipality. History The first documentary references in Santa Maria de Colomers date back to the ninth century, and they are mentioned as a dependent cell of the monastery of Saint Medir. Throughout the 10th and 11th centuries, other documents confirm the existence and inform of the passage to the jurisdiction of Santa Maria d'Amer, where the monastery of Sant Medir moved. The church shows several constructive stages, two of which from the Romanesque period; 11th century are the apse, the frontis and the remains of the lateral walls and the Lombard decoration outside, as well as the capitals of the interiors of the apse; In the twelfth and twelfth centuries, the vault and pilasters and support arches corresponded. In the 16th and 17th centuries the fortification works were carried out, between the 17th and 18th centuries, there was a new intervention of importance in which the side chapels, the sacristy, the portal and the bell tower were added, between 1970 and 1973, a restoration process recovered part of the Romanesque structures that had been hidden.

Ullastret, Peratallada, Pals, La Pera, Púbol, Riuràs, Madremanya and Monells, Cruïlles, La Bisbal and other villages where you can revive the medieval history of our country.

Ullastret If you are fans of history and archeology, you should definitely spend a morning in Ullastret, where you will discover an Iberian settlement, which today is the largest Iberian site found in Catalonia. Get here visiting hours and practical information. Ullastret is also known for his birthday, making competition in Fonteta - we must try both to decide which one is better, right?

Monells is a small medieval village, with charm and a lovely central porticoed square. The town is built around its old castle (although only the walls remain). As a curiosity, Monells has been chosen by the producers of "Ocho Apellidos Catalanes" to shoot some scenes. It must be that for them, Monells represents the typical Catalan people;)

Girona its Historic Quarter or Old Town is one of the most evocative in Europe, and has unique monumental elements on the continent. It is delimited by the so-called Paseo de la Muralla, the round road to the old Carolingian walls (9th century) and the low Middle Ages (14th and 15th centuries). Among its monuments are the call (former Jewish quarter, the best preserved in Spain); as well as the famous and colorful Houses of the Onyar, and above all there is the cathedral, of a very unique ship, which is the widest in the world in Gothic style.

Banyoles You can take a stroll through the pond in its municipal district that is the largest in Catalonia.

Empúries ruins: Visit the ancient Roman and Greek place of Empúries and the small village of Sant Martí d'Empúries, eat at one of the restaurants in the small village square (we recommend the L'Esculapi restaurant) and end the day on the beautiful beaches at next to the village.

In our holiday home you have different hiking trails and you can find them here: Colomers Routes
